The rapid advancements made in the last 10 years regarding Electronic Control Unit (ECU) techonology by the manufacturers, has made in house ECU testing practically impossible. Largely due to the multiple inter-communication, between the numerous control units or modules present on todays vehicles. These require very complex and high tech test equipemnt to allow even the engine ECU to be operated and therefore tested off the vehicle. Missing signals from the immobiliser which is often contained within the Body Control Module or comms with ABS, TCS on ESP modules can prevent a bench test on an engine ECU being carried out to any useful extent.
For this reason, in most cases using out state of the art on car diagnostic equipment, we can narrow down a fault to the ECU if indeed that is where the fault is. In the few cases we cannot be certain, having built up a good working relationship with Blue Streak Europe, we can send an ECU off for test and if necessary repair with a 3 day turnaround. If the ECU is of a family they cannot test there are other companies we can turn to.
